The following comments are based on the article ‘Connectivism: A Learning Theory for the Digital Age‘ (George Siemens, 2005).
What surprised me were the three theories of learning, as described in the article, behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. These three theories are used to create teaching and learning environments. However, these three theories have limitations. Theories are a limitation for people, and learning theories are focused on the process of learning and ignore the value of learning itself. Traditional models of learning can limit a person’s thinking patterns. However, each person enters many different fields of learning throughout their life. There are informal learning opportunities throughout a person’s life, and online learning will give people more opportunities to learn. Networks are defined as entities that are connected to become a whole with a point and line layout, and people will use the points and lines to gain more knowledge. The web is like a community, it better brings students and teachers together to create a good learning environment. Online courses are diverse, and students will use their knowledge while using the web.
Will we be able to change the traditional learning model in the future? How can people guide students to adapt to a new learning environment when everyone is used to a fixed learning model?
To sum up: I personally believe that people have some ability to adapt. And people learn new knowledge and interact with more people when they change to a new environment. Changing learning styles is the new direction for the future.
